First Steps

I’m starting this blog as a way to capture my lessons and share ideas. Mostly for me, but others might benefit.

I decided to leave the U.S. Navy after an interview with SpaceX. Having been fascinated with SpaceX and Elon’s Starship project, I felt compelled to join. After the push from a friend working down in Brownsville, TX on Starship, I submitted an application on a Sunday and heard back interest for an interview on Tuesday. The interview lasted only 5 minutes asking:

  1. Would you be willing to relocate? Yes
  2. Would you provide documentation for ITAR purposes? Yes
  3. When would you be able to join us? 9-months from now.

Later, I learned no company typically hires individuals 9 months out. SpaceX was looking for someone to join them in the next 3 months. Although they were interested in my resume, the timing didn’t align. The recruiter recommended I reapply later.

I hung up the phone realizing I needed to pursue this. I went into work the next day to tender my resignation as a Naval Officer.

Now, I’m on a journey of discovery. What opportunities exist? How do I want to live my life? What do I value? Where do I want to be? Who am I?

I am presented with the wonderful opportunity to reach my potential in all directions. Namely, refining what it means to be Nick.

Along the way, I’ll capture snippets of my current state, of Now Nick.
