I am fired up about making serious progress on Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) in Charlottesville.
Dylan (my Cville Veteran Partner) and I are making progress – we’re connecting with our local leaders
- Delegate Sally Hudson
- Albermale Supervisor Ann Mallek
- City Councilor Michael Payne
We’re taking a multi-pronged approach at the city, so we can eventually advocate at the state level:
- Build relationships with the Representatives by meeting individually.
- Educate the public through a variety of different channels. Our first plan is to go to a local veteran owned brewery and convince them to start holding RCV for Beer, to get people used to it.
- Build a coalition by reaching out to other groups to introduce ourselves and present RCV – UVA student groups, maybe teachers union, and the VFW.
Tonight, I met with Delegate Sally Hudson and Albemarle Supervisor Ann Mallek to discuss RCV and next steps in our local area.
Tomorrow, I’m meeting with a City Councilor over tea or coffee. First, to further build a relationship and second to create a plan for implementing Ranked Choice Voting in the City of Charlottesville. This civic engagement thing is pretty sweet – definitely scratches my public service itch.
Thank you Veterans for Political Innovation for the platform to stand on.
