You will leave your unit. You will miss some colleagues and eventually want to remember them fondly. Prepare for that by capturing notes earlier to leave with a signed frame of previous members. The people in our lives make the experience worthwhile.
Gathering notes and signatures from people as they leave, allows you to capture messages from the leaders who welcomed, trained, and invested in your development. If you wait till the last couple of months, one only compiles messages from people who arrived after you.
One Solution:
- Buy a frame with a large mat for signatures. This works well.
- Keep the frame in your office
- Ask your departing friends to leave you a note to remember them
- Determine an image for the middle to represent your time. (i.e. Unit icon, platform, funny compilation, etc.)
- Add fun tokens, like patches or tags
- Hang on your wall and reminisce
This leaves you with a fully signed frame that includes personal and positive messages of appreciation from teammates you bonded with over the years.
A unit could include this as part of their onboarding process, so each member is prepared for the eventual departure of comrades.
